The
Cumberland County School System is the 4th largest school district
in North Carolina, and one of the most diverse systems in the
nation. The
CCS has students from more than 44 different countries, with more
than 80 different native languages spoken. Of the over 3,200 graduates
in 2008, over 84% continued their education and 8% joined the
armed forces.
Cumberland
Countyis also home to three institutions of higher learning. Fayetteville
State University is a constituent institution of The University
of North Carolina and the second-oldest public institution of
higher education in the state. FSU serves a growing student body
of over 5,300 and ranks among the nation's most diverse campus
communities. In addition to numerous Bachelor and Master's degree
programs, FSU offer a Doctorate program in Educational Leadership.
Methodist College was chartered November 1, 1956 as a senior,
coeducational liberal arts college. Associate's and Bachelor's
degrees are offered in more than 50 majors, and Master's degrees
are offered in two fields, Physician Assistant Studies, and Business
Administration. Fayetteville Technical Community College offers
112 Associate Degrees, Diplomas, and Certificates that are designed
to meet the needs of students, business, and industry.

options in Cumberland are numerous. The Cape Fear Valley Health
System is made up of four main facilities: Cape Fear Valley Medical
Center, Highsmith-Rainy Memorial Hospital, Southeast Regional
Rehabitation Center and Behavioral Health Care. HealthPlex of
Cape Fear Valley Health System is Fayetteville's largest, most
comprehensive fitness and wellness center.
The Womack Army Medical Center, situated on a 163 acre campus,
is committed to providing quality, cost-efficient care for "The
Total Army Family." Womack Army Medical Center is proud to
serve the more than 160,000 eligible beneficiaries in the region,
the largest beneficiary population in the Army. In addition, the
Fayetteville Veterans Administration Medical Center, with 90 general
medical, surgical and mental health beds and a 69-bed long-term
care unit. Fayetteville is located in an area populated by more
than 155,000 veterans in 21 counties.

Culture
The
Fayetteville - Cumberland County Arts Council, recognized nationally
as a leader in the local arts, is made up of, or associated with
over thirty different organizations. The Arts Council is managed
by teams of artists contracted throughout the year, and provides
programs that include performances, readings and visual art exhibitions.
The facility is home is home to a variety of local cultural agencies
and the public spaces are utilized by a number of community organizations
for meetings, classes, workshops and special events.
The
Cape Fear Regional Theater presents a variety of musicals, dramas,
