Alamance
County was founded in 1849 and has great historical significance.
The very first armed resistance against the British occurred in
Alamance County in 1771 during the Battle of Alamance. An outdoor
play, titled the Sword of Peace outlines the struggles
that Quakers faced during the American Revolution. The historical
play is regularly performed in Snow Camp, in southern Alamance
County. Some families in the area have roots here all the way
back to colonial times and take pride in the temperate climate,
outstanding schools and recreation facilities, deep roots in the
American past, active volunteer communities, and colorful cultural
celebrations. For information on life in Alamance County, visit
