Brunswick County, to which many refer as the "Brunswick Islands", including the communities of Southport, Oak Island, Holden Beach, Ocean Isle Beach, Sunset Beach, Shallotte and Calabash is located on the southeastern North Carolina coast, along US Highway 17. Brunswick County separates Wilmington and the South Carolina Grand Strand, which includes North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach. From it farthest point either north or south, its communities are less than an hour away to either.
